Dzhemilev: Many Russians boycotted presidential vote in Crimea alongside Crimean Tatars

Presidential Envoy for Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev told LIGACensor.NET reports.

According to him, on March 18, 2018 members of local and regional branches of the Mejlis visited almost all polling stations in the areas where Crimean Tatars live.

"And according to the information they collected, the number of the Crimean Tatars, mostly public-sector employees, who cast their votes in this "election", does not exceed 10 percent of the total number, as we predicted. But the fact that this time a high percentage of Russians including those who were happy by the "accession into Russia" in 2014 joined the Crimean Tatars’ boycott became a pleasant surprise for the Mejlis," Dzhemilev said.

The president’s envoy for Crimean Tatar people stressed that it was vital for the Russian occupying authorities to make the Crimean Tatars complicit in fake election held in Crimea.

Dzhemilev said that the most widely-used intimidation practice was a threat to dismiss the Crimean Tatars working in the public-sector if they do not come to polling stations and confirm the receipt of ballot.

According to him, the Crimean Tatars reported pressure being put on them ahead of the illegitimate election.

"The Facebook pages of many Crimean Tatars are also full of reports of similar lawlessness. And by the way, living in Crimea and making such posts on social media is also an act of great courage as all these posts are carefully monitored by the relevant departments of the FSB," Dzhemilev stressed.
