EU Is ready to ‘lend a helping hand’ to Ukraine in implementing economic and political reforms - German Foreign Minister

The EU is ready to extend a helping hand to Kyiv in reforms issue, German Foreign Minister said. He stressed that the Minsk protocol should become a basis for resolving the conflict in the east.

The EU is ready to 'lend a helping hand' to Ukraine in implementing economic and political reforms, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in Kyiv on Tuesday, Nov. 18 after meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Yatseniuk. According to Steinmeier, an international conference on Ukraine could become one of the support tools, Censor.NET reports citing DW.

The German Foreign Ministry head said that the tension has increased in eastern Ukraine over the past few months, but at the same time he expressed the hope that Kyiv will be able to maintain the integrity and sovereignty of the country. According to him, Minsk protocol, which, in particular, envisages ceasefire, must be respected to resolve the crisis. The arrangements achieved in Minsk are not perfect, but they are the base and we have to fulfill these agreements", AFP cites the German politician.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier will travel to Moscow from Kyiv for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to Steinmeier, this visit is aimed to find out whether the negotiations of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Brisbane have helped to create an atmosphere for a more efficient work on the implementation of the Minsk agreements," Reuters reports.
