US may join Normandy Four peace talks, Germany to keep its leadership, - former Foreign Minister of Sweden

U.S. may join the Normandy format of negotiations on the Donbas, but Germany's role will remain the key one.

This was stated by former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Carl Bildt in an interview with Evropeiska Pravda, Censor.NET reports.

At the same time, he said that there will be no return to the Geneva format (Ukraine, EU, U.S., and Russia) while the Normandy format is quite likely to turn into a Normandy Plus, being joined by the Americans and perhaps the EU countries as well.

According to the former head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Germany would keep its leadership in the Normandy talks in any case.

Bildt is convinced that Germany has made a great contribution in talks regarding the Donbas although he did not support much the change of the format of negotiations into the Normandy one.

He believes that Germany's achievements were much more substantial than the ones of the EU could have been at the same period. Carl Bildt added that Berlin was carrying out negotiations in close cooperation with Brussels and the EU member states.
