Cabinet opens access to property registers effective Oct. 6, - Justice Minister Petrenko

The resolution granting unimpeded access to all property registers and possibility to search information not only by information on certain property but also by the name of the owner was adopted at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

"We will grant our citizens full access to databases relating to property on Oct. 6. In addition, public access to the registries operated by the Ministry of Justice will be expanded. Ukrainians will be able to obtain information regarding property by the name of a person," Minister of Justice Pavlo Petrenko said.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at disclosure of data on property of public servants first of all.

"Citizens will be able to find out what real estate is owned by state servants. It is a great anti-corruption control. At the same time it is a sign of disclosure and transparency of the current government and the fact that we are not afraid to communicate with civil society," Petrenko said.

The Minister of Justice recalled that the government initiated the disclosure of all real estate and legal entities registries operated by the Ministry of Justice last year. According to him, civil society has received the tool for actual monitoring of the activities of public servants.

"We have opened access to the register of real estate since January 1. After that, the Parliament in conjunction with government and civil society has adopted a more revolutionary amendments to the law, which have also attached to the process other databases and registries including the land owners registry and database of vehicles," Petrenko added.
