The European Union has postponed granting Ukraine a visa-free regime because of the position of individual member states, including France.

As reported by Censor.NET, Presidential Administration Deputy Head Kostiantyn Yelisieiev said it in an interview with Obozrevatel.

"The delay is due to the position of individual member states that have difficulties overcoming the psychological barrier of visa liberalization with one of the largest countries in Europe. At present, I would speak of only France. In spite of the French side perceiving this fact rather sensitively, we have to acknowledge it. I hope France will not delay the technical procedures until the date of presidential election in April 2017," Yelisieiev said.

He is confident 2017 will be the year of visa liberalization between Ukraine and the EU.

"But I've always said we should keep away from any time frames in order not to mislead the optimists and give new 'food' for the pessimists," the official added.
