U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden said in his farewell speech at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Censor.NET reports citing Reuters.
"It [the Kremlin] seeks to return a world where the strong impose their will through military might, corruption and criminality while weaker nations have to fall in line," he said, condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine and Georgia and adding the West should keep standing by Ukraine.
"Defending the liberal international order requires that we resist the forces of European disintegration and maintain our longstanding insistence on a Europe, whole, free and peaceful," Biden said.
"It means fighting for the European Union, one of the most vibrant and consequential institutions on earth," he added.
"With many countries in Europe slated to hold elections this year, we should expect further attempts by Russia to meddle in the democratic process. It will occur again, I promise you. And again the purpose is clear: to collapse the liberal international order," Biden went on.
"The U.S. and Europe have to lead the fight to defend the values that brought us to where we are today," he stressed, saying the support of NATO allies was Washington's sacred duty.
Biden started his speech in Davos, saying "My name is Joe Biden, and I am going to be the vice president for the next 48 hours."
Earlier, U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump said he was ready to offer Vladimir Putin the easing of sanctions in exchange for cutting Russia's nuclear arsenals.
