Poroshenko instructs Ukrainian military to cease fire in Donbas since April 1

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says he has instructed the Armed Forces General Staff and the Defense Ministry to cease fire in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) area in the Donbas starting from April 1.

The president told a correspondent for Interfax-Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.

Asked whether the Ukrainian servicemen were ready to observe the agreements reached in Minsk, Poroshenko said: "I've given all the necessary orders to the General Staff and the defense minister."

March 29, the Tripartite Contact Group resolving situation in the Donbas agreed on the cease-fire from April 1 in connection with the Easter holidays. Besides, the negotiators scheduled withdrawal of troops and hardware from Stanytsia Luhanska for April 6, 2017.

The Defense Ministry earlier confirmed that the military were ready to cease fire in Ukraine's east from April 1.
